Tractor Run for BreakthroughT1D April 12th 2026
What a day! A thought that came to fruition a year after its conception. We never expected such support, kindness and generosity from people who came to see us locally and from as far afield as Norfolk/East coast, Mid Wales/Herefordshire Border. We were truly overwhelmed and humbled on the day and still are with donations still coming in. There were queues at some points, with the parking attendants doing a great job making sure that everyone was parked up properly. Registration went smoothly and all those who brought Tractors to go on the Run on the day were given mugs as a memento and a lunch token to say thankyou for joining us. Every penny of the registration fee went directly to the charity. Many people bought raffle tickets on the day too, which greatly boosted the coffers. We would like to thank all those who came to help us on the day. They were all friends, neighbours and family who gave of their time. Without them it wouldn’t have been possible. Thanks also to Steve and his team of Ladies who did so well in serving everyone some delicious food throughout the day. Thanks to Linda, Eluned a Eileen and of course Byron.
Richard welcomed everyone and gave the tractor drivers an indication of how everything would work on the Run and he also talked a bit about the reason for us all being there on the day. It all came about as our daughter Cerian at the age of 30 was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about a year and a half ago. She was and still is fit and healthy. It was a shock to us all. But she carries on with life not letting it define her. She was always a strong character, but the diabetes has made her stronger. There were hardly any dry eyes in the shed after Richard finished speaking. Many on the day could relate to this, as many joined us who either had diabetes or had some family/ friend connection to it.
So after this everyone got into their tractors and left at about 11.30am, when we had a bit of a downpour. Luckily it didn’t last long and everyone was waved on their way by a crowd who lined the top of the yard. Quite a sight to see 142 tractors leave our yard. To see everyone’s faces beaming brought a lump to the throat. It was great to see families bringing their children and also to see young men and women driving their tractors on the Run. Andrew led the convoy in Richard’s dad’s old Case 1494. They all followed him, although some did go astray! But they were all soon reunited and roamed the small winding roads and hills which were very close to home. Mid-point roughly was a treat for the eyes. Guto Blaenbowi kindly let everyone make their way through his fields and park at the top where the mighty turbines are situated overlooking much of Wales on a clear day. Everyone enjoyed the view and a chat with a can of pop and a biscuit.
Then came a couple of main road crossings and finally the ‘Home Straight’. A burger or curry was then enjoyed by all back in the Shed , where everyone could sit and have a chat around the tables. Some indulged in our free bar, with those donations also adding to our grand total. It was just great to see familiar and unfamiliar faces socialising together. Many came with tractors and also many came without just to support us. True friends, customers and tractor dealers who have now become our friends too. Finally, the raffle was drawn and some had a lucky day ending up with a prize. We would like to thank all those who kindly donated to the raffle as that was a great success. We will always be very proud of our one and only Tractor Run. Words will never be able to express how much we appreciated the huge support that we received on the day in every way possible. A day of joy, kindness, closeness and generosity, where the tractor community and Diabetes community came together to make a difference. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts. So far you have raised over £7400. Absolutely amazing.
